June Special Events At The Market

The Middletown Farmers Market opened for the season on May 2, and now several weeks into the 2019 season, the Middletown Farmers Market has been setting record numbers for customers visiting the market as well as for the number of vendors participating each week.  The market is held every Thursday afternoon, rain or shine, in the Christ Reformed United Church of Christ Parking lot at 12 South Church Street, in historic Middletown, Maryland.

Following a very busy first month, our special events continue into the month of June with so much to see and do.  This market continues its commitment to “bring you the best of everything!”

Black Rock Barbecue will be back every week in June serving up her American Fusion cuisine that focuses on smoked meats and comfort sides.  June Menu Specials will include pulled pork tacos, the Maryland Po Boy sandwich, and apple crisp.

We recently held our 4th Annual Canines in the Valley celebration of the contributions dogs bring to our families.  However, due to the potential for thunderstorms on May 23, we have rescheduled the Scavenger Hunt activity to June 6.  Customers who bring their dog to the market are invited to participate and win a free prize.  This event is sponsored by Trend Setter Treats.   Friendly dogs, leashed, and up-to-date on shots, are welcome to visit the market every week with their human companions.

On June 13, Simply Shaker Oval Trays will be hosting a FREE Father’s Day Craft.  The first 25 children (12 years old and under, please) to visit the market will be invited to build birdhouse for their father.  Dads are invited to assist with the construction at the market.  Due to the cost of materials, and required preparation prior to June 13, participating is limited—please arrive early to participate.  Black Rock Barbecue will also be hosting a FREE Twinkie Taco food craft on June 13.

Amy’s Music Happy Hour returns on Thursday, June 20.  While we have many events for children, and while this one is also family friendly, it’s for the adults.  During the 5 o’clock hour, local musician Amy Frevert will be entertaining the market as she plays guitar, ukulele, and sings hits from the 1940s through today.

We had a blast with this in May, and many of the vendors will be participating in the Music Happy Hour fun in June too.  For example, Mazzaroth Vineyard will be entering customers who make a purchase from them in a drawing for a pair of wine glasses—you do not have to be present during the 6 PM drawing to win!  Just look for the Music Happy Hour sign at each participating vendor’s tent for special offers and opportunities.  Additional Music Happy Hours will be offered the third Thursday of each month.

Jennifer Carpenter of Jenuine Yogi completed her Yoga Teacher Training at Sol Yoga in Frederick, Maryland in 2018 and currently leads several community based classes, including our Community Yoga at the Market.  The next session will be held on June 27 from 5 to 7 PM in the grassy area adjacent to the market near Franklin Street.  The style is Vinyasa Flow which strings together a variety of poses focusing on breathing and creating a more balanced body.  No two classes are alike.  Participants can be of any age, but should bring a mat if possible.  There is a suggested donation is $5.00, but no one will be turned away.  Yoga will be held in the grassy area adjacent to the market.  Additional dates for Community Yoga are June 27, July 25, August 29, September 26, and October 10.

Corner Oaks Farm is holding a monthly Ground Meat Give-Away on the last week of each month.  For each $25.00 you spend with Corner Oaks Farm at the Middletown Farmers Market during the month you get one entry into the drawing.  The more you spend, the more chances you have to win.  The prize is two pounds of hamburger or loose sausage, mix and match.

Sew and Sew Forth is also holding a monthly drawing.  Spend $25.00 anytime during the month with Sew and Sew Forth at the Middletown Farmers Market, and be entered to win a free American Girl Doll outfit.  The drawing is held on the last week of each month.

July will also be another fun month at the market.  Yes, we will be open on Thursday July 4, and Whistle Punk Farm Food Truck will be at the market that day with a special menu to celebrate Independence Day.  Black Rock Barbecue will be back for the rest of the month, and Sew and Sew Forth will be hosting our first ever American Girl Doll Fashion Show!
